Son of Saul is a scorching drama about an Auschwitz prisoner in 1944. Saul Ausländer is a Hungarian member of the Sonderkommando, the group of Jewish prisoners isolated from the camp and forced to assist the Nazis in the machinery of large-scale extermination. While working in one of the crematoriums, he discovers the body of his young son, and must choose between participating in the clandestine uprising being planned among the prisoners, or securing a proper Jewish burial for his child. Son of Saul doesn't tell the story of the Holocaust, but of one man caught in a dreadful situation. Forced to lose his humanity, he finds moral survival in the salvaging of the boy's body.
