Ten Matchboxes

Thursday, February 15, 2018

Rodef Shalom Congregation, 4905 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA

Free and open to the public.

An adaptation of a short story, "Ten Matchboxes" by Janusz Korczak, this play tells of a teacher who sparks his poor students' imaginations by giving them a simple gift: an empty matchbox. Learning that one can derive joy from the simplest objects, each of the students creates their own unique game. The audience will help  create something special with 'their' box and imagine their own ending to the play's story.
A play about the power and hope of imagination, particularly during the most desperate times, teaches us compassion and invites us to participate in a "Children's Court", similar to the one which was run at Jonusz Korczak's orphanage in Nazi-occupied Warsaw.

The full inclusion of people of all abilities is a core value of Classrooms Without Borders. For questions or to make requests for special accommodations contact robin@classroomswithoutborders.org
